This is a powerful and practical book on Christian Spiritual Growth. The material presented in this book will appeal to a wide range of readers within the larger body of Christianity, across many denominational lines, who accept the complete deity and unity of the Holy Trinity. While avoiding many of the often controversial points of denominational theology, the author boldly takes a stand against materialism and what are often called prosperity ministries with so called 'name it claim it' doctrines. The book includes extensive use of Scripture reference as well as quotations from mature Christians and well known classical authors such as Thomas a' Kempis, Oswald Chambers, Charles Spurgeon, CS Lewis, A.W. Tozer, Jonathan Edwards, J.I Packer, Andrew Murray, Dr. Charles Stanley, Martin Luther Watchman Nee, Matthew Henry, and many more. The guides at the end of each chapter include many recommendations for further reading and study, as well as Summary Statements for contemplation, prayer and thoughtful consideration. There are nineteen chapters in this book which include: Abundant Living, Loving God, Spirituality, individual chapters on God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. The author then moves on to discuss obstacles to spiritual growth such as inflated Self, the bondage of Materialism, challenges of Spiritual Warfare, Relationships With Others, and Taking Our Eyes Off Jesus. There are also individual chapters on spiritual disciplines including Prayer, Renewal of The Mind, Alone With God, Self Denial, Confession, Repentance, Bible Study, and Keeping in Step With The Spirit. The author also includes some powerful personal testimony and application from his extensive background in the criminal justice field, which include his background in counseling, case management, prison management and administration.
